An exceptional kinetic quantum sieving separation effect of hydrogen isotopes on commercially available carbon molecular sieves.
The quantum sieving effect of H2/D2 at 77 K on commercially available carbon molecular sieves (1.5GN-H and 3KT-172) was studied. An exceptional reverse kinetic quantum effect is observed on 1.5GN-H where D2 diffuses much faster than H2 with a ratio of up to 5.83 at low pressure, and the difference is still very evident even as the pressure increases up to 1 bar. D2 also diffuses faster than H2 ...
متن کاملPreparation of Carbon Molecular Sieves from Pistachio Shell and Walnut Shell for Kinetic Separation of Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, and Methane
In this study, two Carbon Molecular Sieves using Pistachio shell (CMS P) and Walnut shell (CMS W) were prepared by a chemical vapor deposition method and used for pressure swing adsorption and separation of CO/H2 and CO/CH4. Adsorption isotherms of gases obtained for both CMS’s. The Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model was used for comparing pore volum...
متن کاملTriple-point wetting of molecular hydrogen isotopes
Triple-point wetting is a well-known phenomenon of simple adsorbates on solid substrates, which involves, in the liquid phase above the triple-point temperature, T3, complete wetting with the formation of arbitrary thick films being observed, whereas below T3 only a few monolayers of the solid phase are adsorbed at saturated vapour pressure. This effect is usually ascribed to the substrate-indu...
متن کاملSeparation of Hydrogen Isotopes ELECTROLYTIC MIGRATION THROUGH A PALLADIUM MEMBRANE
With the increasing importance of “ heavy water” as a moderator in nuclear reactors there arises a pressing need for a more efficient method of separating hydrogen isotopes. In a report by 0. N. Salmon to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC Research and Development Report KAPL 1272) a process is described which aims to improve the method of separation by the electrolysis of water. This proce...
متن کاملThe Molecular Spectrum of Hydrogen and Its Isotopes*
The spectra of all six known isotopic species of molecular hydrogen, HP , DH, Ds , TH, TD, TZ have been obtained with high dispersion under several excitation conditions. This has led to a complete wavelength table of these spectra containing about 100,000 different lines. The principal band systems have been found in all six spectra and a comparison of the isotopes has resulted in the clarific...
